Korean Wave?...NO!!!

Ever wonder what gets girls attention the most these days? IF you're thinking David Beckham or any football players for that matter. You could be very well wrong. Or how about Brandon Routh? True, he is a handsome fellow(Gosh, I sound gay) but NO, it ain't him. Or how about that new bag that they just walked past in MNG? Another big N-O!

Unfortunately, for us gentlemen, we've been awashed with something called the Korean Wave.
"WHAT THE F**K IS THAT?" would definitely come next. However, Korean Wave isn't something new. It's been going on since 2001 at the very earliest. It has slowly seeped into our country and slowly but surely brainwashed the ladies of our country to being swept away by the Korean Wave.

Still wondering what is the Korean Wave? Ever heard of Winter Sonata? Or what about Jewel in the Palace? Still no? Apparently while the majority of us male population of the Earth were busy glue'ing ourselves to something other than HOT WOMEN wearing bikinis and running on TV(think Baywatch), i.e World Cup. The ladies have been watching these Korean Soaps. To make things simpler for you readers out there, it has come to my attention that I should save my fellow male counterparts from going through all the trouble of figuring out what's been drawing the female species away from us(males). Yes, the Korean Wave I mentioned as my title is this. The Korean soaps that is on teevee almost every other day and it is still coming in by the droves and shows no sign of slowing down.

Anywayz, here is a bit to get you going in case you don't know what your female counterparts are talking about, in this case, the Korean soaps.

Winter Sonata

Ah Beng and Ah Lian with their "sticker-photo-background". Veli de Nise, hor?

The story begins when Jun-sang, yew the son of an eminent musician, moves to Chuncheon, a rural city in South Korea. As an extraordinarily talented student, Jun-sang is welcomed by his fellow students as well as teachers, but remains a quiet, introverted young man. As a result of his belief that his father is dead and serious conflicts with his mother, Junsang believes that no one truly loves him.

On one fortuitous day on the ride to school, Jun-sang's classmate Yu-jin interrupts him on the bus. Jun-sang soon falls in love with Yu-jin, who opens herself to him with an innocent heart. Their love, however, is cut short after Jun-sang is involved in a serious auto-accident and, due to brain damage, is unable to recall his past life.

Jun-sang's mother, desiring Jun-sang's love and respect, has Jun-sang brainwashed by a Psychologist, so that Jun-sang will not remember his painful memories of growing up as an illegitimate child. As a result, Jun-sang's memories prior to the accident are erased. Jun-sang's mother decides to move to the United States with Jun-sang, where he can start a new life under the identity of Yi Min-hyung. As such, both his friends and teachers are told that Junsang is dead.

Ten years later, Jun-sang is an award-winning architect in the United States. He does not remember anything about his life in Korea. He is completely different, an open-minded person who cares about other people, including his mother. He returns to Korea and Yu-jin sees him on the street, prompting her to put off her engagement to childhood friend Sang-hyuk. Little does she know that Min-hyung is dating her friend and sometime rival Chelin. The story's plot intensifies when Yu-jin begins work at the firm where Min-hyung is employed, and tries to find out if he is her lost lover Jun-sang.

Jewel in the Palace (
Dae Jang Geum)

Korean's hairdressing techniques took a turn for the worst with massive green clip-ons.

Set in the Joseon Dynasty, it's about a lady who eventually becomes the first royal physician of the patriarchal Korean dynasty. However, before she achieves that, she goes through many trials and tribulations(it's a soap after all) that tests her perseverance with A LOT of backstabbing and nefarious schemes thought out by some very evil ladies in the dynasty. As usual, when the good prevails, the heroine falls in love and is thought to live happily after all but this comes with a twist, they were separated after a while and only manage to reunite after the King dies. The rest, as you can say, finally, "And they lived happily ever after".

Based on this synopsis, I hope that I have helped my fellow gentleman in dealing with women when they start talking about these Korean soaps. Just don't go on and on and start showing them your Winter Sonata keychain, posters and what not lest they think you're gay. Have a good day folks!

Korean boys? I've not seen them so I cannot comment. But I think they don't look all that different from japanese boys right?

hmm...dunno..have never laid my hands on korean soaps...therefore can't comment on that either but what i do know is that a majority of girls i know are all obsessed about it...
therefore i decided to do a bit of research on the net but not watching it though...too lazy to buy the dvds and too lazy to catch it on tv..
i mean...even after the jewel in the palace ended a long time ago there's still re-runs...apparently it's quite a hit i must say...
